Vapour Cloud Evacuates Aquatic Centre - Hurstville
Published: 05 Apr 2021 10:16am
More than 150 people were evacuated from Hurstville Aquatic Centre following a Hydrochloric Acid leak today
Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to the scene when about 70 litres of Hydrochloric Acid leaked into a spa area of the centre just after 10 am releasing a vapour cloud into the communal area of the pool.
Three adults and one child were treated on scene and transferred to hospital by NSW Ambulance.
The leak is thought to have occurred by a malfunction of an automated system within the pool's filtration system.
The acid vapour has been cleared by a process of natural and fan-driven ventilation.
FRNSW hazardous materials specialists are on scene in spillage suits, using equipment to monitor the air inside the centre and make it safe.
