Para glider rescue - Laurieton
Published: 25 Sep 2024 09:48am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have saved a para glider, who has crashed into a tree at Laurieton on the state's mid-north coast.
The man's flight came to grief around 12.45pm yesterday when his chute careered into a canopy of trees in thick scrub, around 100-metres from Lord Street.
FRNSW crews from Laurieton, assisted by Police and Ambulance paramedics, were alerted and used a fire trail to access the bushland.
They located the uninjured man, suspended from a branch of a large gum tree, up to 30 metres off the ground.
The first responders hatched a recovery plan and a firefighter scaled the tree to rig up a vertical rescue harness.
The pair was successfully lowered to safety and the para glider was assessed by paramedics after his brush with danger.
