Fire and Rescue NSW supports SES-led emergency response in Northern NSW -

Published: 07 Mar 2025 08:47am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is deploying strike teams, drones and communications technology to support the State Emergency Service-led emergency response to severe weather conditions on the state’s north coast.

FRNSW has dispatched the following resources:

  • Seven specialised Water Rescue strike teams to assist communities in Bellingen, Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Taree, and Port Macquarie.
  • Two 4-wheel drive tanker strike teams (8 tankers) to assist, staged at Coffs Harbour.
  • Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) or drones to provide real-time reconnaissance and data collection. These drones will be conducting impact assessments and provide situational awareness in remote and hazardous locations. The drones are also capable of carrying loads of up to 40kg, giving firefighters the ability to drop equipment such as life jackets and first aid.
  • Two ‘Cell on Wheels’ (CoWs) vehicles to provide essential communications capabilities. These vehicles act as mobile communications hubs, offering Wi-Fi, radio repeaters, and internet access.
  • A bulk water transfer system which is a high-volume pump used to assist with moving large amounts of water.
  • Incident Emergency Management personnel support.

The NSW SES is advising people to download the Hazards Near Me App which will include the latest warnings and information for impacted communities.

For assistance during floods and storms call the NSW SES on 132 500 or Triple Zero (000) for life threatening emergencies.
