Woman dies in house fire` - Auburn

A woman has died in a house fire in Auburn in Sydney's west earlier this evening.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls around 6.30pm about a house alight in Cardigan Street.

Eight trucks and more than 30 firefighters arrived on scene and found the single level property fully engulfed in flames.

Neighbours reported a person inside the home and under extreme conditions, a firefighter entered the property through a window and unlocked the front door.

One crew entered the home to commence a search whilst another crew attacked the fire to stop it advancing up the hallway.

Firefighters quickly located the unresponsive woman in the front room and carried her to safety. They immediately commenced CPR, alongside an off-duty paramedic, until NSW Ambulance arrived.

The woman could not be revived despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel on the scene.

The fire escalated which caused the roof to collapse, forcing firefighters to withdraw from the home and continue battling the blaze from outside.

Two adjoining properties were also under threat but crews managed to protect them, with only one suffering minor heat damage.

The fire was extinguished in approximately one hour and investigations are now underway into the cause of the blaze.
